I want to be a great man. … woman.
Not just for what I have accomplished but the strength of my character, the goodness of my heart, and the integrity of the relationships that I keep. I want to leave a legacy. I want to be a superhero.
Recently I have started reading the Batman comics. If you are not a fan of novels of the graphic variety you should know that there are a lot of them. But one thing that is consistent about Batman is that he has to be something that persists past the bounds of Bruce Wayne. Batman doesn’t need superpowers just the boundless control to always make the better choice, sometimes the more difficult choice.
I admire that he is self reliant.
Quick velveeta cheesey heartwarming story.
Background- One of our three professors went on a leave of absence since the 2nd week of school and things have been tense with some of the remaining theatre faculty thus leaving many students without much instruction or a trusted friend.
The Plot Thickens- The students banded together and performed monumental feats to put up the first, second, and third show without much help from any mentor or adviser. Many other conflicts arose from said tense faculty relationship and people had a generally shitty semester.
Crux of this Story- As the semester wore down, the final show was underway, a majority of us went on a trip to see The Muppets the day before strike. And it was AWESOME! The movie was funny, poignant, and a perfect way to fill up an afternoon. I in particular love this movie so much I want to die (and side note the swedish chef is always wonderful). Fast forward to the morning of Strike and my good friend buys me the soundtrack. I check everyone in for strike and surprise everyone by playing “We Built the City” (a song they sing while cleaning up a theatre, I know… ironic), and of course everyone loves this idea.
And here is the Kicker- We listen to the whole soundtrack while working but we are getting right near the end of strike as we reached the end of the soundtrack. So I had us hold off on the finale until we were completely done. Then we played this song. Slowly and then in a flood people got up to dance about how perfect everything is, and then inexplicably we were pulled into a spontaneous group hug.
All of these too cool for school 20 years were so overcome with pure joy and camaraderie that we shared a purely Muppet moment of being a family.
Me ” I am the man in the relationship”
Ali “You are both the men in the relationship”
Camran “THATS HOT!!”
… Ali and I just turn and stare
– Camarama-ding-dongWe try to keep it classy in my room. At the back right my roommate, Sydney, is reading Butch Walker’s book, Drinking with Strangers, I am in the middle reading Scott Pilgrim, and finally our friend Stephen King (hahaha, I know) is reading Slaughter House Five.
All of the literary masterpieces in this room. ;)
